St Patrick’s Night 2017 in Collingwood Town Hall
The Melbourne branch of Comhaltas was founded in 1970. We celebrated our 55th anniversary in 2025.
We are based at 146 Hoddle St, Abbotsford VIC 3067 at St Philip’s Anglican Church Hall next to Collingwood Town Hall, a short 5 minute walk from Collingwood railway station.
Irish Set Dancing happens in the Djering Centre, just behind St Philip’s (contact Matt on harriage @gmail.com)
Music classes for children are in Northcote High School at 6.30 on Wednesday night (contact concertinamusic@gmail.com or aifricboylan@gmai.com)
We meet every Wednesday night 7:30pm – 10:00pm except for a Christmas break which will be advertised.
Joan Mundy’s music sessions run 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month.
Slow sessions with Noel McGrann run 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of the month.
Eileen Walsh is in charge of the kitchen – we have great suppers
When there is a 5th Wednesday in a month, that night is a night where we have a sing song as well as our usual dancing and music.
Anyone is welcome to come and see what we’re all about.
Come and dance or play some tunes or just listen and join us for supper afterwards.

Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann was founded by musicians in 1951 to promote Irish traditional music and the first Fleadh Cheoil was organised in Mullingar, County Weatmeath. Within a few years, this had become a National Festival attended by thousands of traditional musicians, singers and dancers from all over Ireland and soon also from overseas.
Branches of Comhaltas have formed in every county in Ireland and also abroad, organising classes, concerts, and sessions in local communities. Comhaltas is now a world-wide organisation, with active branches in the United States, Britain, Canada, Japan and elsewhere. In fact, there are hundreds of branches in 15 countries on 4 continents and very vibrant branches in Melbourne, Perth, Sydney and Canberra and more recently in Adelaide.
