Fáilte Romhat! Ceoltóirí Naarm was set up in 2023, for children and teens to learn Irish music, as part of Comhaltas Melbourne. Every Wednesday, there are lessons available on individual instruments (tin whistle, fiddle, concertina, traditional singing), as well as group sessions for improvers and more advanced students on other traditional instruments. Our aim is to teach and promote high quality Irish traditional music amongst the Irish diaspora in Melbourne and Victoria, as well as those who simply have a curiosity or interest in learning Irish music. Through 2024, we hope to add other instrument lessons to the above, so watch this space. For kids aged 6+, we find the tin whistle is often the best (and most affordable!) way to get started, before moving onto other instruments.
Most of our teachers grew up in Ireland, and all have a deep knowledge, understanding and love for Irish music. Within a short time, Ceoltóirí Naarm has become a much sought after group to perform on festival stages and events around Victoria and beyond- check out the footage from the National Celtic Festival 2023 below!
